I started my career in the motor trade in 1991, joining Ringways Ford Leeds Dealership in their Fleet Department. Gaining promotion to Group Fleet Key Account Manager, I personally managed the group's Key Fleet Customer requirements and controlled the supply of over 700 vehicles each year.
2001 saw a move to the larger Polar Motor Company, a joint venture between Jardine Motors and Ford Motor Company. In this new role as a Corporate Sales Executive I was tasked with growing the Business Centre at Polar Ford in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. 2004 saw the company change name and structure to become Ford Retail Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company.
I was awarded Group Fleet Sales Executive of the Year in 2007, having grown the client base and vehicle order volumes to over 1,500 per year. 2008 saw my promotion to Business Centre Manager leading an experienced team of five, with a strong focus on customer service excellence. Another accolade came in 2011 when I was awarded Business to Business Manager of the Year for the Group.
The department experienced year on year growth under my guidance to achieve a volume of 4,000 vehicles supplied in 2011 with a turnover of approx. £60M. The Business Centre team had increased to eleven during this period. The client base consisted of numerous national and local companies from varied business sectors such as Retail, Manufacturing, Construction, Rail, Utility, Vehicle Rental, Leasing and Public Sector.
I made the difficult decision to leave Ford Retail Group in 2013 in order to follow my desire to start and run my own business. trueFleet® was therefore established with the aim of assisting the Small and Medium Enterprise local business sector by sharing my knowledge, connections, services and best practice gained from many years of experience in the fleet industry.
